Micah called the meeting to order and Joseph Williams led our prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Micah opened the meeting by thanking all of our police chiefs for their service and dedication.
Member Spotlight – Deva Reece
Business Fact: Deva has owned and operated Sir Speedy for six and a half years. Prior to Sir Speedy, he spent 32 years operating five golf courses. One highlight for him was having dinner with Sam Snead.
Personal Fact: Deva’s mother was moved to an assisted living facility due to early signs of dementia. While she was there, she got engaged! After driving to Gastonia for the wedding, Deva was 5 minutes late and missed the ceremony.
Other: If Deva had a talk show, he would invite Hitler and Jesus to be guests.

Amy Segposyan – Reach for the Stars Summer Reading Program
Brad Moser was born and raised right here in Alamance County. He graduated from Southern Alamance and North Carolina State University. He and his wife, Mel, have 3 children. Brad is a CPA with Gilliam, Coble & Moser, LLP.
Brad introduced Amy Segposyan, Educational Consultant with Usborne Books. Amy is from NYC but has been in Burlington for the past ten years. In addition to working with Usborne Books, she is also a substitute teacher. She enjoys working with children and promoting literacy in Alamance County. Amy says her favorite age group to work with are middle schoolers because they are the hardest to reach.
This summer she is partnering with the Burlington Housing Authority’s Reach for the Stars summer reading program. A total of 121 kids from 1st grade to high school are participating in the program from five Title 1 ABSS schools. Their challenge is to read at least 400 minutes over the summer.
The kids are presented with their very own “library” of new books that they are allowed to choose themselves. The books are donated as a result of the generosity of corporate sponsors and Usborne. For these at risk students, reading can be their “ticket out.”
If you would be interested in sponsoring a child in the program for as little as $25, please click on the following link for more details:
