General announcements…
Ryan Risko reminded the club that Grandmaster Sang Ho Lee will be honored on his birthday, Saturday, September 21, at 10 am at Williams High School Auditorium. Admission is free if you get your tickets right away at www.leebrotherskick.com. The price at the door will be $300. This will be followed by a luncheon at Alamance Country Club. The cost will be $20. Brooke Carpenter will take your money for that, if you decide to go. Please notify Lee Brothers Academy if you plan to attend the luncheon – 336.584.0993. Various local and Rotary leaders will attend.
From Micah Fox…
We made an executive decision today to postpone our Rotary Info Hour until September 10th to give us more time to get prospects invited and confirmed. The 10th ALSO happens to be my week to bring the speaker and I’m excited to announce that we have Tracy Schmidt from Burlington Beer Works that day as the speaker for our regular meeting! It would be a great week to get a prospect to come learn about Rotary from 11 am to noon, then join us for the regular meeting for lunch and an intro to Burlington Beer Works. I’m still waiting to hear from Tracy for sure, but we may even have a few things to sample that day during her presentation 🙂 Please take time to make a couple calls or send a few emails and help us grow our membership by getting quality prospective members to come on September 10th!
Happy Dollar Announcements
- Susan Watson announced that Lori Seiler (wife of Dan) will be speaking at the upcoming Working Women’s Wednesday. She encouraged all to attend to support Lori (and Dan, who usually needs more help than Lori).
- Micah put in several dollars to celebrate a recent extended family vacation at the beach and 10 year anniversaries with North Star and Rotary.
- Carolyn Rhode put in a dollar and she and Sam Powell reminded all of ACC Day. Go to www.accday.org for more information.
Program: Jordan Wood, Foundation Associate with the ARMC Charitable Foundation
Jason Crutchfield provided our speaker this week. He is General Manager with PIP Triad and Director of Sales. His wife Shea works there part time with him. They have three children. He estimates that spending on school supplies this time of year is like Christmas.
Jordan has been with the Alamance Regional Charitable Foundation since 2017. She earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with a concentration in public relations and minors in Spanish and business at Peace College in Raleigh, NC. Jordan serves the foundation in marketing and event planning, and manages the donor database.
She shared that gifts to the Foundation can be directed to one of 32 funds that help with various patient needs, such as prescription medicines, gas cards, and help with rent or utilities. They have a particular focus on those being treated for cancer. 3,000 individuals were assisted last year. They have five signature events which help fund their efforts: The Black and White Ball, the Blizzard Blast, the Pink Ribbon Lunch, Elon’s Support Through Sports (KIDS Can), and Legs for Life 5K. They have just 2.5 employees and rely on many volunteers.
Conclusion
Sid Little’s table once again held the winning ticket today, but he failed in his attempt to draw the Queen of Diamonds, leaving her secure in her hideaway. Only 35 cards are left! Mary Thomas adjourned the meeting by leading us in a recitation of Rotary’s four-way test.
