Burlington – Alamance Sister Cities
Beth Powell shared with the Club that there are two sister cities connected to Burlington-Alamance Co. — Gwacheon City in South Korea and Soledad, San Luis Potosi Mexico
What do people in sister cities do?
They visit each other! Recently, a trip to Soledad was made and Burlington’s own Mayor Ian Baltutis attended the trip.
Sister Cities host guests from Sister Cities! Members from the Korean Embassy traveled from New York and the Mayor of Soledad visited with our local Fire Chief.
Sister Cities exchange gifts! Soledad has 320,000 residents but only 7 fire stations. Due to this, two fire trucks with self containing water were given to the city. Also, Swepsonville Fire Department donated fire gear and suits to the fire stations.
Sister Cities enjoy meals with each other! With the assistance of Senator Richard Gunn, residents of our South Korean sister city was able to travel to Raleigh and have lunch after a senate meeting.
