Program: Tracy Schmidt – Burlington Beer Works
Micah Fox had the program today. He as been a member of our club for ten years, about the same time he has been employed at Northstar Marketing in sales. He has been married for eleven years to Kari. They have five beautiful children, aged 10 years to 10 months. The are being homeschooled by Kari. Micah said he once worked in construction and helped build Dean Norton’s home on Truitt Dr.
Tracy Schmidt (Johnson) is an Alamance County native with over 15 years of management and team-building experience. Her love of community and drive to strengthen the food and beverage culture in Alamance County is cohesive with the Co-Op culture and vision of Burlington Beer Works. Creating a dynamic team to ensure the highest quality of food and beverage, Tracy looks forward to developing a culture of hospitality within Downtown Burlington. Tracy is driven by the ability to connect our community by primarily sourcing from within Alamance County and offering a well-crafted selection that brings everyone in our community to the table.
Jeremy Hunt, the brew master, was also on hand today with some samples of his craft. In 2007, Jeremy began homebrewing. Over the past 12 years, his travels have been guided by “beer tourism” which influenced his techniques and broadened his “beer-spective.” He is a “traditionalist” when it comes to brewing. Traditional recipes use four basic ingredients – hops, malt, yeast, and water. Jeremy will be creating a diverse selection of unfiltered, unpasteurized beers with up to 8 on tap at any one time. Jeremy will also be selecting up to 4 local draft beers and ciders to round out the menu. His goal is to provide beer that will help the food to “shine.”
Kyle Wilkerson, the executive chef, is a Durham native who graduated from the culinary program at Wake Tech. Restaurant stops in his career include the Washington Duke Inn, Four Square, and Watts Grocery. He was also the chef behind Heirloom, a Poppa Paul Kitchen located in a converted old retail building in downtown Roxboro. All are highly regarded. Until being hired by Burlington Beer Works, he had returned to the Washington Duke Inn.
Currently BBW seats 118 inside seats. With the patio and rooftop additions, that figure will climb to 200. Tracy said the Coop currently has 2269 owners as of yesterday. Buy in costs $100, which allows the owner voting privileges, special seating, and discounts on merchandise.
Conclusion
Jim Cartner’s table held the winning ticket today. He failed in his quest to draw the Ace of Clubs, leaving only 51 cards. Mary Thomas adjourned the meeting by leading us in a recitation of Rotary’s four-way test.
