Club Business
President Jim Cartner brought the meeting to order. Dick O’Donnell led the prayer and pledge of allegiance to the US flag. There will be a Rotary information hour prior to the meeting on November 27 for prospective members. As a reminder, on December 5 we will participate in a special Rotary Packathon sponsored by Feed the Hunger at the Holly Hill Mall from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Rotarians can sign up online or at a weekly meeting. Also, set aside December 18 for our annual Dirty Santa Luncheon. Just in — the Micah Fox family just welcomed #5 into the world! Congrats! Rich Jackson: Editor of the Times-News
Paul Mauney provided our speaker. He noted that he had been a member of three Rotary Clubs over the years and was president of this club in 1999.
His guest speaker was Rich Jackson, Editor of the Times News. Rich began his newspaper career as the crime reporter for the Beaver Dam Daily Citizen in Wisconsin. He worked his way up in the industry, serving as an editor at six different newspapers. Most recently, Jackson was editor of The Derrick and The News-Herald in Oil City, Pa.
Rich described the strategy the Times News used to cover the education bond over the past year. The goal was to make sure that everyone who voted was fully informed of the pros and cons.
Conclusion
David Moore’s table had the winning raffle ticket, but once again there was a failure to draw the Ace of Hearts. There are only 17 cards left and the pot is growing. Next week may produce a long awaited winner. Then we all stood to recite Rotary’s four way test before Jim adjourned the meeting.
Until next time…
