Tuesday evening our club held our first in what we hope will become a yearly signature fundraising event. We met at Burlington Beer Works at 6 pm for fellowship, food, fun, games, and a reverse raffle. Entry into the event cost $25, which provided heavy hors d’oeuvres and a complimentary pint of beer or glass of wine. Other alcoholic drinks were available on a cash basis. Part of the ticket cost accrued to the club. Most of the funds came from participation in an exciting reverse raffle, tickets for which were $50 a pop. Eighteen door prizes, ranging from a stay at the beach to four tickets to the zoo, to a wine basket, to gift cards, were interspersed throughout; so, that those who were eliminated from the raffle often won something. First prize was a check for $1000 that went to Thomas Phelps. When asked what he would tell his wife, he replied that she will be happy to learn that they just won a hundred bucks. Second prize was a night at the new Inn at Elon. Third prize was a $100 membership at Burlington Beer Works. We had great attendance, lots of excitement and fun, not to mention success at raising money to support our numerous charitable giving projects. President Mary Thomas Gilbert personally thanked many whose tireless work made this happen.
