- Susan Watson shared the Herb Festival will be this Friday and Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington with a member only viewing on Thursday. Last year, they raised a record of $30,000 and they believe this year could possibly exceed that record! Susan could still use some volunteers on Saturday afternoon to help with tear-down if anyone is available.
- Carrie Theall with The Alamance Partnership for Children will host its annual Early Education Summit on Tuesday, April 25th at First Presbyterian Church from 11:30-1:30. The Early Education Summit is designed to create a forum for the community to discuss the scope and critical importance of early childhood education. The keynote speaker will be Robin Rogers from Cedarsong Nature School.
Member Spotlight – Micah Fox
- He has been married to his lovely wife, Kari, for almost nine years and they have four young children – 7, 6, 4 and almost 2 years old.
- He is scheduled to travel to the country of Moldova in July on a mission trip to work with a missionary partner from their church. Micah assured Brian Dement that his leaving the country right after Brian is to be installed as the new president is not a reflection on the year Micah has had as president :-).
- Micah works for North Star Marketing. North Star has been around since 2000 and in this area they are known primarily for their brand development work (think Alamance Chamber and City of Mebane) or their website development work (think City of Mebane). However, the fastest growing segment of North Star’s business in recent years has been online marketing. Online marketing helps clients rank on search engines, beat out their competition and build a funnel of leads for their business, school, etc.
- What would you say are two things that you consider yourself to be particularly good at? Micah shared that not only is his father a pastor, but also a public speaking professor at Elon. Because of this, Micah and his siblings had communication skills (speaking and writing) drilled into them all throughout their growing up years. Due to his parents’ (especially his father’s) influence over the years, he has been in many positions in the workplace, civic arena, church, etc. where opportunities for leadership have arisen in large part due to his upbringing and ability to communicate.
Next week’s member spotlight – David Moore
Curt Cignetti – Elon University Head Football Coach
Charley Cobb and David Moore introduced our speaker Curt Cignetti, Elon University Head Football Coach. Curt was named Elon’s 22nd head football coach on December 31, 2016. He previously served as the head coach at Indiana University and assistant coach/recruiting coordinator on Nick Saban’s undefeated 2009 National Championship team at Alabama.
Curt was a quarterback at West Virginia where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 1982. He and his wife Manette have three children – Curtis John, Carly Ann, and Natalie Elise.
Curt reported he kept a couple of coaches from last year but has mostly a new coaching staff. He feels confident in his background and capabilities as a coach. He is coming to Elon with big ideas for where he wants to take the football team. He definitely plans to win a championship!
Curt plans to play an aggressive style of football and is a big fan of trick plays because they work and fans love them. His Offensive Coordinator will call the plays which will allow him to work in more of a CEO role for the team, providing the strong leadership it needs.
We look forward to cheering on the Phoenix football team this fall.
