Special Presentation to Susan Watson:
Micah presented the Rotary Club of Alamance Outstanding Service Award to a very surprised and honored Susan Watson! Micah shared the following:
The Rotary Club of Alamance is pleased to award this years’ Service Award to Susan Z. Watson. Susan was named Executive Director of the Women’s Resource Center in Alamance County in January 2014. Since becoming director at WRC, the Center has initiated the Leading the Way event, honoring women who have made a difference in Alamance County. The event has been a very successful fund raiser for WRC. Also, under Susan’s leadership, this year’s Herb Festival raised the most money in its 19 years of being in existence!
Cathy Dusenberry, a board member of the Women’s Resource Center notes that, “She is an incredibly hard working person and puts in countless after-hours time attending events and spreading the word about the work of the Women’s Resource Center. She certainly has my complete respect and admiration for the job she is doing to help women and families in Alamance County.”
Susan is also active in the Chamber of Commerce, and is the owner of a small company in Greensboro, The Write Occasion, in her spare time.
Ms. Watson came to the Women’s Resource Center after serving as Office Manager at Northwestern Mutual in Greensboro for thirteen years, where her responsibilities included the development and recruitment of financial representatives, bookkeeping, payroll management, entrepreneurial leadership and vendor management. She also led her office’s United Way campaign. Ms. Watson served on the Women’s Leadership Group of the United Way of Greater Greensboro, on the membership committee of the Women’s Professional Forum, and her volunteer service has included planning fundraising events, donor development and attendance at national United Way conferences. Susan holds a Bachelor’s degree from UNC-Greensboro in Women’s and Gender Studies.
Rich Skrosky–Elon University Head Football Coach
David Moore introduced our speaker, Rich Skrosky, Head Football Coach at Elon University. Coach Skrosky shared his personal coaching philosophy with our club. His decision to return to Elon has been more of a personal choice than business. He believes in the values of Elon University and feels that if he recruits closer to home, he gains greater perspective on the true character and motivation of the students. The coach is able to visit students in their homes to encourage them that the decision they are making is not a 4 year decision but a 40 year decision. Coach Skrosky believes that the more times he can meet face to face, the intangible qualities come to light, such as work ethic, character, reliability, toughness and perseverance through hard times. Talent is easy to spot, but one must dig deeper to find a future great player and person who has those characteristics. He believes in growing the whole person so they will have a sense of pride about their education and sports experience. Coach Skrosky fosters leadership through ownership & accountability among his players and as a result the young people are invested in their success.
Elon has had 11 offensive All American players in the last 5 years.
There will be 30 players working in the Summer Jobs program this summer keeping them in our community.
The team improved by 3 wins last year
