Young Professionals Summit – Chantelle Stoughton and Micah Fox
Micah and Chantelle attended the Rotary Young Professionals Summit on November 18th and 19th. Micah prepared the following Power Point to summarize the discussion items from the summit:
rotary-yp-summit-report-presentation-20161128
- 56% of the participants at the summit were men and 43% were women which is different from most of our club totals.
- The average Rotarian age is 58 and we have seen membership levels decline over the last few years.
- Members decide to join Rotary due to one of the following- they are asked to join, they are told to join, they seek membership on their own or they have a family legacy with Rotary. Chantelle asked our group to share how we joined and the majority of members joined because they were asked by another member to visit/join.
- Reasons members choose to stay is due to friendships and fun
- Some of the membership decline could be a result of the following: old, white men stereotype, too many cliques, lack of women and minorities, membership requirements are too strict
- Ideas were shared as to ways we can improve our membership efforts – promote our club on social media sites, ask members to not sit in the same seats each week (move around and meet someone new), increase our service opportunities, offer company memberships that allow for “subs” to attend in your place, conduct periodic member surveys, better collaboration with local clubs, ask millennials to take the lead on public image, and intentional recruiting.
Card Drawing
- Sam Powell picked the winning card! Congrats to Sam and the “back table.”
The meeting was adjourned and we all stood to recite the Rotary Four Way Test.
