- Rotary Board Meeting is next Tuesday 11/8 at 11:00.
- LaKeisha Vance IT department head and Rotaract Advisor from ACC joined us. She recently attended the Rotary Leadership Seminar and thanked our club for sponsoring her and the other Rotaract students who attended. They were given new ideas to help with membership fluctuations that result from a 2-year community college club. LaKeisha also updated us on the Computers for Needy Students program. They have already given away 4 computers this year with a goal of 10 by year end.

Kelley King – Haw River State Park
Philip Smith is a CPA and CFE working for Apple, Bell, Johnson & Co. Philip has been married to his wife for 28 years and they have two children. He introduced our speaker Kelley King with the Haw River State Park.
Kelley graduated from Western Carolina in 1990 and is currently the Park Superintendent for Haw River State Park. Haw River has grown from 300 total acres to now 1400 acres and includes a conference center. The conference center offers environmental education programs. The programs attract school groups throughout the year.
North Carolina state parks are 100 years old this year. Mt. Mitchell was the first NC state park designated in 1916. To celebrate 100 years, the parks are offering passports that you can have stamped at every park you visit. Prizes will be awarded to books that are full of stamps. The parks are also offering a 100 mile challenge. You can track your miles on the website.
Haw River State Park offers Grandcamps for 2nd-6th graders. Children attend with their grandparents and the camp includes room, food and programming (swimming, crafts, etc.).
You can help support the Friends of Haw River State Park while running through forests and wetlands on January 1, 2017 for the 1st Day 5K. You can sign up at runsignup.com
The meeting was adjourned and we all stood to recite the Rotary Four Way Test. Until next time….
