Chuck Marsh: A Force for Local Radio Broadcasting
Chuck’s greatest successes have been in the marketing end of radio. During his career he has helped to bring numerous stations out of revenue and listenership decline. He has also been part of promoting over one hundred concerts and other events, which dovetails nicely with radio. He told the club that recently all local stations have abandoned local programming, which means we no longer get local breaking news, traffic updates, sports, or talk shows. He is in the process of acquiring three local stations, one AM and two FM, which will provide blanket coverage of Alamance County. He is currently recruiting partners to help in this endeavor and asking for businesses to support his efforts once the stations are broadcasting. He said that radio works well in tandem with digital media by driving traffic to websites. Google’s business is up 32% after using radio advertising.
During Q and A, Chuck said that perceptual research will be done soon. Some 2500 people will be contacted in the next thirty days to find out what kind of programming is most needed and wanted.
Conclusion
Thomas Phelps failed to draw the winning card, moving us a week closer to someone finally winning the raffle. Afterward we all stood to recite Rotary’s four way test before Brian adjourned the meeting.
