Dr. Bob Carter – CART/Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust
Micah Fox has been a member of the Rotary Club of Alamance for seven years. He works for North Star Marketing and has been married to his wife, Carrie for eight years. Micah and Carrie have four children.
Micah introduced our guest speaker, Dr. Bob Carter who is a retired physician and a member of the Burlington Rotary Club. Dr. Carter is married to his wife, Ann and they have four children and nine grandchildren. He is an Elder at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington. Dr. Carter graduated with a Political Science degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. He completed his medical training at Bowman Gray School of Medicine.
Dr. Carter updated the group on the North America Rotary initiative, Coins for Alzheimer Research Trust (CART). CART started in 1995 and 100% of the funds raised through CART go directly to Alzheimer research grants. Alzheimer research is important to Dr. Carter who has two UNC classmates who suffer from forms of dementia.
Dr. Carter is often asked if patients suffering from dementia know they are suffering from dementia. He said the answer is yes but families and friends usually know first.
Although there is no known cure, prevention is key. All aspects of your health are determined by genetics, chance and habits. Habits are the only aspect you can impact so make good choices with respect to your diet, exercise, etc.
