April Brantley & LeAnn Wooten – Project SEARCH
Kathleen Patterson introduced Project SEARCH speakers: April Brantley & LeAnn Wooten. These ladies shared fascinating information regarding the unique business-led transition program for students with disabilities. The partnership with Cone Health/ARMC has fueled the internship opportunities for students with disabilities to learm employ-ability skills in the classroom and develop job skills while participating in targeted internships. Students must be 18-21 years old, complete all High School credits necessary for a graduation certificate and meet the eligibility requirements for Vocational Rehabilitation and the Developmental Disabilities Organization.
The goal of this program is to provide on-site internship experiences for youth with disabilities leading to competitive employment. Their first graduating class was 2015; 4 of 5 students are working; 1 is in Florida working with Voc Rehab.
These students are loved and highly requested throughout the hospital and found a particular friend in our own Ben Wooten whom they affectionately named “Red Alert”!!
The meeting was adjourned until next week….
