Cary Worthy – Alamance Arts Executive Director
Dan Seiler is commonly known as “Mr. Lori Seiler” who he has been married to for 24 years. Some may not have known, but Dan previously worked on Wall Street. He didn’t much like neck ties and after receiving his Christmas bonus one year he got the train and never went back. He much prefers being a janitor to working on Wall Street. 9/11 is personal for him though having worked in the World Trade Center.
Cary Worthy is the Alamance Arts Executive Director and has served in Alamance County for 19 years. Cary shared with us the recent Chihuly exhibit brought 27,000 visitors to Alamance County from all 50 states and 27 countries. 25% of Alamance County residents visited the exhibit which ran from July 1st-October 15th. The Alamance Arts gift shop had $197,000 in sales during the 3 month period. The exhibit had a tremendous impact on our local economy.
Alamance Arts will resume it’s normal schedule with 6-week exhibits featuring local art. 80% of their budget comes from funds they raise on their own. Alamance Arts memberships help to raise necessary funds. Cary also shared several upcoming events:
- Low country Bash this Sarturday – event will include a silent auction with an open bar and music. Tickets are still available.
- November 18th – Martinis and Mistletoe – get a sneak peek at the local art that will be available for Christmas.
- November 19th-December 24th – artwork from 100 local artists will be for sale for your Christmas gift giving.
- Ice skating will be available on the front lawn for two weeks starting 12/3.
Alamance Arts received a $10,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant. The money will be used to present art throughout Alamance County. The art will be presented in a “pop up” style from March 2017-October 2017. Art will pop up in unexpected places.
They continue to focus on Arts in Schools. They just wrapped up the Snow White project. all 2nd grade students were bused to Cummings High School to see the Children’s Theater of Charlotte’s Snow White production. In the winter, they will be presenting African Dance in all middle and high schools.

Jim Cartner did not draw the winning card. The pot continues to grow…
